Make a large print word search in three steps

  1. Paste your words. Spelling lists, vocabulary units, family names, a harvest theme for activity hour. Anything three letters or longer works. The maker cleans your list automatically and tells you exactly what it changed: “‘of’ removed: too short · ‘they’re’ → THEYRE · ‘naïve’ → NAIVE”. Nothing is ever dropped silently. Short of a list, start from a built-in theme (Birds, Garden, Kitchen, Sports, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween) and edit it before printing.
  2. Slide the type size. Every sheet runs from 16pt to a true 48pt. That is genuine large print, sized for low-vision and macular-degeneration readers rather than labelled “bigger” and left at that. The preview is the page itself, so if your settings won’t fit on one sheet, the caption underneath says so before you print.
  3. Print, or download the PDF. Letter and A4 layouts are tuned separately, answer keys always start on their own page, and variation packs turn one list into up to twenty different puzzles in a single document.

Who this large print puzzle maker is for

Activity coordinators printing a month of themed sheets for a care home. Teachers building a spelling worksheet the whole class can actually read. Family caregivers putting a fresh large print word search next to a parent’s morning coffee. In every case someone is printing for somebody else, and the sheet has to be right the first time.

There is no account, no subscription, and no upload. Everything is generated in your browser, and every puzzle carries a set code. Save the link from Copy link and the same word search comes back next week, or on another computer, identical letter for letter. The set code pins the arrangement rather than the words themselves, so the link is what carries your list. That is also why your words never touch our server.

Large print questions, answered

How large can the print go?

The type scale runs from 16pt to a true 48pt on screen and on paper. The downloaded PDF is always one page, so at the largest grids and sizes it may scale down to the biggest size that still fits. It always tells you the final size. Thirty-two point and above suits most low-vision solvers; pair it with an 8×8 or 10×10 grid for a comfortable single page.

Do I have to bring my own word list?

No. Twenty-one ready-made themes cover nature (Birds, Garden, Trees, Ocean, Weather), the seasons (Spring, Summer, Winter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Valentine), home and daily life (Kitchen, Baking, Pets, Farm, Camping), and games and sport (Sports, Colors, US States, Sixties Music). One click loads the list, and you can add or remove words before printing; a themed sheet for activity hour takes about ten seconds. Three of those themes also have a ready-to-print page of their own, already at large-print size: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas word search.

Is BigType Puzzles free?

Yes. Unlimited puzzles, variation packs, answer keys, and PDF downloads. There is no account, no watermark, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

Does it support A4 as well as US Letter?

Yes. Pick Letter or A4 in the action bar, and the margins, grid sizing, and PDF page size all follow your choice.

Can I print a whole pack of different puzzles at once?

Yes. Choose up to 20 variations and the maker builds one printable document where every puzzle is different but every puzzle uses your word list. Answer keys start on their own pages.

Every sheet is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible (a typeface designed specifically for readers with low vision), on screen, in print, and embedded in the downloaded PDF.
